Effective Acne Cures for Adults

When it comes to adult acne cures, there are a lot of opinions and more than a few misconceptions. Here is a look at some of the myths and realities regarding adult acne and adult acne cures.

Myth: Adults Shouldn’t Get Acne

This is a popular one, and may be why some adults are reluctant to get the acne treatment they need, choosing instead to desperately search for quick acne cures. The fact is anyone who has hair follicles can get acne at any time. Teenagers tend to be more prone to outbreaks because their sebaceous glands tend to be more active, and sebum is a key ingredient in acne. However, when and how someone will develop acne is largely about individual genetics and skin type. Fortunately, no matter how old you are, the best treatments for acne have a great chance of working on you.

Myth: Products Containing Benzoyl Peroxide is a Sure Acne Cure

Benzoyl peroxide is truly a miracle compound when it comes to fighting acne, but it is not a cure. No medications can truly be said to be acne cures. You can’t cure acne any more than you can cure sunburn. What you can do is reduce the frequency and intensity of acne outbreaks and help fade existing acne faster, and this is where benzoyl peroxide can really help. The right acne control system containing benzoyl peroxide allows medication to penetrate deep into pores,  unclogging them and killing the acne causing bacteria deep within.

Myth: The Right Diet Can Cure Acne

It’s commonly thought that greasy foods cause acne. This is intuitive in a way. There is oil in greasy food and there is oil in acne. There’s no truth to this connection though. The oil that is found in acne is produced by the body in response to hormone stimulation; it’s not excreted from the food you eat. That being said, it is possible that a healthy diet containing fruits and vegetables will improve your complexion, and it’s generally better for you anyway.

Myth: Excessive Skin Washing Is an Acne Cure

You should certainly wash your skin with soap and water on a regular basis, and a skin friendly acne cleanser can also do wonders. However, there is a limit to the benefit of washing with soap and water, and actually, if you wash your skin too much, the skin will dry out, which can result in irritation and even make your acne worse.

Wash, but in moderation.

Myth:  There’s Really Nothing You Can Do About Acne

Even if there are no actual acne cures, this does not mean there is no hope when it comes to treating your acne. Teens and adults alike have reported terrific results from some benzoyl peroxide based solutions, and some even report being completely acne free for years. If you’ve got acne, you shouldn’t waste time looking for a cure, but you should take the time to find the right treatment for you. It’s almost certainly out there.
